Bob Hope House                      Pond Estate                         Elrod House

Rosalie Murphy writes in a recent Desert Sun article that the sale of Bob Hope’s former house in early September caps off a hot summer for Palm Springs celebrity owned real estate. The home, built for Bob and Dolores Hope in 1980 and sitting at the top of Southridge Drive with sweeping views of the Coachella Valley, features 23,000-square-feet of living space and was designed by famed architect, John Lautner. It was most recently listed at $24.9 million.

In addition to the sale of Bob Hope’s former house, the 12 acre Pond Estate was offered for auction in August, listed at its appraised value of $8.5 million, and the sale closed earlier this month. In July, the John Lautner-designed Elrod House sold for $7.7 million to fashion designer Jeremy Scott. And, in May, a home belonging to sportswear designer Mark Ware, located in Old Las Palmas, sold for $5.75 million, which at the time was the highest price ever in Palm Springs.

Other homes with Palm Springs' famed Old Hollywood pedigrees have been changing hands, too.  Kirk Douglas’ Palm Springs house, designed by Donald Wexler, fetched $3.5 million in June, and Cary Grant’s estate sold in May for $3.4 million.
