ShortFest 2017 101:
A highly competitive festival, The Palm Springs International ShortFest, now in its 23rd year, receives 4,200± submissions from over 100 countries around the globe. This year’s program of 338 films will feature 46 world premieres, 12 international premieres, 42 North American premieres and 16 U.S. premieres from 60 countries.
This year’s selections include Tatiana Maslany in “Apart From Everything,” “The Dark of Night,” directed by Robin Wright and starring Leslie Bibb and Sam Rockwell; Ian McKellen in “Edmund the Magnificent,” Toby Jones in “The Entertainer,” Idris Elba in “Five by Five,” Carrie Coon in “Great Choice,” Kate Winslet in “The Lost Letter,” Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale in “Martha Monster,” Helena Bonham Carter in “Poles Apart,” and “Super Sex,” directed by Matthew Modine and starring Kevin Nealon, Edward Asner, Elizabeth Perkins and Efren Ramirez.
The festival is the largest short film event in North America and is an Oscar® and BAFTA®-qualifying festival. ShortFest has presented more than 100 shorts that have gone on to receive Oscar® nominations and/or awards.
