This Desert Sun Article takes a look at the upcoming Flying Aviation Expo, focused on owners of mostly small or collector planes with speakers like Stephen Pope, editor-in-chief of Flying Magazine, a key sponsor of the event and Phil Gonsalves, a meteorologist and general forecaster at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which lands in Palm Springs later next week.
The event, famous for the opening “Parade of Planes” on Thursday at 10 a.m., runs through Saturday and is expected to attract some 5,000 airplane enthusiasts to the valley. The three-day aviation showcase will fill the Palm Springs Convention Center and its surrounding grounds. More than 40 planes are expected to participate in the Parade of Planes on Thursday.
The Flying Aviation Expo is attractive to not only the weekend pilot, but also friends and family members with its events like the 1940s themed Aviator Party at the Palm Springs Air Museum. There will also be beer and wine tastings, and “lifestyle seminars” on topics like “fabulous flying destinations” or “quirky airport features.”
If you can’t catch the opening Parade of Planes, then come out on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. to see aircraft taxi back to Palm Springs International Airport. Some of the planes in the parade will include SkyRunner, Avex’s TBM 900, Pilatus, WACO bi-planes, War Birds — the vintage WW II aircraft — and more.
