Golf Digest asked it’s 1,700+ course-ranking panelists to evaluate the greatness of golf's best clubhouses on a 1-10 scale, disregarding the club’s history and membership. While the Golf Digest editors admitted that things like the feeling of the entrance, flow of human traffic and utility of each square foot of the clubhouse are important considerations, their real question was: "How much does the clubhouse make me want to spend time here?"
For the first time, Golf Digest has determined America's Greatest Clubhouses. And two of them were in the Coachella Valley:
Bighorn G.C., Palm Desert
This 80,000 square feet clubhouse was designed by Swaback Partners and built by Lusardi Construction in 2017. Golf Digest noted that with a price of $70 million, the clubhouse is a striking marriage between modernist angles and interior and exterior travertine walls that were imported from Portugal and floors made with limestone imported from Peru.
The Hideaway, La Quinta
This Spanish Revival style clubhouse has a dining room, wine cellar, fitness center, full-service spa and stunning views of the Santa Rosa mountains. Perhaps one of the most innovative aspects of all of Hideaway developer Discovery Land Company’s properties, are the comfort stations located throughout the golf course, offering a wide variety of gourmet treats as well as childhood favorites, ranging from champagne and port wine cheese to a large selection of ice creams.
