According to the California Association of Realtors® and RISMedia’s Housecall, home burglaries generally involve thieves looking for an easy target they can rob quickly. Some tips to help you prevent break-ins:

• The most popular times for break-ins are weekdays between 12:30 pm and 2 pm, since the last thing thieves want is to encounter someone at home and people’s weekend schedules are too unpredictable

• Burglars scout public social media accounts to find victims

• Tall bushes around a home make it easier for thieves to hide from neighbors, so keep them trimmed

• Keep expensive items out of sight, for example leaving a computer or tablet in front of a window or door makes it an easy target for a burglar

• Prime targets for thieves? Homes with unlocked windows, unused deadbolts, homes with poor lighting and homes without security systems
