The Desert Sun’s real estate and business reporter, Amy DiPierro, writes that at the recent Coachella Valley Economic Partnership annual summit, Manfred Keil, an economist at Claremont McKenna College stated that the likelihood of a strengthening Canadian dollar should prompt increased spending by Canadians on real estate, food and recreation in the Coachella Valley this winter. Other highlights from the summit: (a) while the Coachella Valley probably isn't a good fit for Amazon, the Coachella Valley can increase its spending on business infrastructure to attract big technology companies; (b) there are no signs of an economic slowdown in the country or Coachella Valley in 2018; and (c) the Coachella Valley shouldn't model itself after Phoenix, due to its much larger government and university presence which protects it from seasonal economic factors.
