CNN’s David Williams reports that Southern California developer Palari Group has announced plans to build Palari Villas, a community of 15 eco-friendly net zero energy 3D-printed homes located on a five-acre parcel of land in Rancho Mirage.
The 1,450 square foot, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom single-story homes will be made from modular stone composite panels printed by partner Mighty Building in Oakland. Because they’re made of stone composite, the panels are strong, fire resistant, water resistant and termite proof. All energy needs will be supplied by solar power, and owners will have the option to install options like the Tesla Powerwall.
Current plans are for the homes to come with a deck and swimming pool at a starting price of $595,000, with the option of adding a second 2 bedroom 1 bathroom secondary residence on the property for another $255,000. Other options include fire pits, cabanas and outdoor showers.
Palari Group is focused on sustainable building techniques and turned to 3D printing because it is less wasteful. With wood frame construction, about two tons of waste goes into landfills for each home. Bathrooms, cabinets and other interior materials that can't be 3D printed will be sustainably sourced.
Palari Group plans to break ground in September and complete the project by Spring 2022. The quick finish is possible since Mighty Builder can be printing panels at the same time Palari Group is installing the required roads, foundations and utilities. Palari is already looking at additional developments in Rancho Mirage and other parts of California.
