Patch.com reports that The Living Desert recently announced that park attendance this past fiscal year (July 1, 2015 – June 30, 2016) reached an all-time-high of more than 408,100 guests, surpassing last year’s record by more than 2,600 guests. 

The Living Desert is best known for its known for its native and exotic animals and desert gardens. It is an independent, non-profit organization that relies on funds raised through admission, memberships, programs and events, annual gifts and philanthropic support to provide the best possible care for the Zoo’s rare animals, protect wild populations thru conservation research projects and support the educational programs that benefit the residents and visitors to the Coachella Valley. Some of the Zoo’s upcoming events include:

  • PikaZOO Pokémon Go Event - Sept. 10th, 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. – Pokémon are running wild at the Zoo and they want you to catch them all.  Over 25 PokéStops, 4 Gyms and 15 Lure Modules will be dropped around the Zoo grounds.  If you have to ask what these are, then this event probably isn’t for you;
  • Mystery Dinner – Sept. 24th, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. – Members are invited to come find out who done it.  Set in the 1920’s, guests are invited to dress the part;
  • Year Of The Cheetah Launch Party – Oct. 1, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. – Join the Zoo’s efforts to #savethecheetah, and raise awareness of the Cheetahs’ plight, as there are now fewer than 7,500 cheetahs left on the planet;
  • Saturday Night Cheetah Dance Party – Oct. 1, 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. – Guests are invited to break out their cheetah print bellbottoms and go-go boots and dance to their favorite 70’s music.

The Living Desert is open daily through September 30 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and October 1 to May 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about upcoming events and activities, please call (760) 346-5694 or visitwww.LivingDesert.org.
