This Desert Sun article takes a look at Donald Wexler’s final project, Steel and Glass 2015, whose plans were drawn by Wexler and finalized less than two months before the architect died in June at his Palm Desert home. The home is a modern iteration of Wexler and Harrison’s famous steel and glass houses from the 1960s.
The house broke ground in August and should be finished by February in time for Modernism Week. Like many of Wexler’s famous homes, Steel and Glass 2015 is steel-framed and features floor-to-ceiling glass throughout.
Although Wexler won’t be able to see the results, he is an integral part of its structure from design to completion. The team building the home views the project as a link between the designer Wexler, whose style is one of the centerpieces of Palm Springs Modernism, and the practical.
