ESPN reports that the LPGA Tour has announced a September date for the ANA Inspiration. The ANA Inspiration, previously scheduled for April 2-5 in Rancho Mirage, California, is traditionally the first major LPGA championship of the year and is famous for the winner’s traditional leap into Poppie’s Pond. According to the announcement, the tournament will now be played Sept. 10-13. In order to accommodate the change, the Cambia Portland Classic will move back by one week. ESPN noted that this is the first postponed golf tournament to announce a new date. It goes without saying that the new date will depend on the status of the current coronavirus pandemic.
The schedule change was announced Friday along with the postponement of the LPGA tournaments scheduled for the last three weeks of April in Hawaii, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The Official World Golf Ranking and the Rolex Women's World Golf Ranking are freezing the rankings since golf is shut down from the coronavirus until May at the earliest. The next scheduled LPGA Tour event is May 14-17 at the new Pelican Women's Championship in Belleair, Florida.
