According to The Desert Sun’s Skip Descant, it looks like despite the heat, humidity (due to warm moist air drifting up from the Gulf of California at this time of the year) and possibly even a haboob (those large, smelly clouds of dust that can blow in at this time of year), tourism industry watchers are preparing for a busy month, with big events like Splash House and Comic Con Palm Springs.
While a lot of people thought it was crazy to do an event in summer, the second Splash House event, the weekend of Aug. 12th to 14th, is already sold out, as are the two host hotels: The Saguaro Palm Springs and Riviera. However, tickets are still available for the evening Splash House party, with Rufus Du Sol, at the Palm Springs Air Museum on Friday Aug. 12th.
Meanwhile, the inaugural Comic Con Palm Springs heads to the Palm Springs Convention Center Aug 26 to 28, bringing with it comic book legend Stan Lee. Comic Con is pushing up hotel rates across the city and region, with many hotels in the $200 a night range.
