The Desert Sun’s Xochitl Pena writes that one of Palm Springs’ most unique properties, owned for almost 40 years by Suzanne Somers and her husband, Alan Hamel, will be auctioned off on January 3st by Concierge Auctions. Concierge Auctions sells some of the more luxurious and elite properties across the globe.
The 73 acre property, located at 252 Ridge Road, is carved into the Palm Springs hillside at the base of San Jacinto mountains in The Mesa neighborhood. The property consists of 5 French country style villas, including a 100 year old villa currently serving as the living room and a rock house, designed in the 1950s by famed architect Albert Frey. Living space in the 5 villas totals 7,281 square feet, with 8 bedrooms, 9 full bathrooms and 2 half bathrooms. The villas are reached via funicular tram, private road or stone pathway. Other features include an outdoor amphitheater, 10 outdoor living spaces, a rock lined swimming pool, numerous swimming holes beneath gorgeous waterfalls, a formal dining room that seats 32, a 5,000 bottle wine cellar and a spectacular views of Palm Springs and the rest the Coachella Valley.
Originally listed at $27.5 million about 8 years ago, the home is now on the market for $14.5 million, but it is being auctioned without reserve (no minimum price, selling to the highest bidder). The auction is conducted online and can be viewed by anyone who registers with the Concierge Auctions website. Interested bidders pay a $100,000 registration fee to participate.
As for Suzanne Somers and Alan Hamel, they will remain nearby; they have been developing a 20 acre site for roughly 3 years and will build a new home there.
