A Little About Indian Wells

Indian Wells is a small resort community found in the Coachella Valley (greater Palm Springs area) of Southern California. Indian Wells is perhaps best known for hosting the annual BNP Paribas Open Tennis Tournament, which is one of the largest tennis tournaments in the world and is hosted by the Association of Tennis Professionals at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Indian Wells has one of the highest per capita and household incomes in the state of California, which is unsurprising considering the community’s exclusive character. Most of the properties in Indian Wells are large single family homes, although there are also some upscale condominium complexes in the area. There are about four thousand permanent residents of Indian Wells, and the community covers a total area of about thirteen and a half square miles. Indian Wells is situated in the western portion of the Coachella Valley, a largely arid portion of Riverside County that sees little rainfall over the course of the year. In fact, Indian Wells sees sunshine more than three hundred and fifty days per year.

Indian Wells is served by some of the highest rated educational facilities in the Coachella Valley, including the award winning Gerald Ford Elementary School in Indian Wells itself. There are no middle or high schools in Indian Wells, although there are several secondary educational institutions in the surrounding communities of Riverside County. There are also several satellite college and university campuses a short drive from downtown Indian Wells. Indian Wells is rated as the safest city in the Valley, and is home to the Indian Wells Golf Resort, with steeply discounted golf rates for Indian Wells residents, as well as the Indian Wells Country Club. Indian Wells boasts a wide variety of tennis courts, shopping centers, hotels, spas and cultural centers.
