Lawrence Karol writes in a Palm Springs Life Magazine article about a five-house compound on nearly two acres of land that has just been put on the market. The home is located behind the gates of the La Quinta Country Club and for more than 40 years has been home to the same family.
In 1970, Bud Buettner, a Lloyds of London executive, purchased a single home in the community and then, over the years, built four more houses and acquired a sixth parcel to create this family compound. Three of the compound’s five homes have three bedrooms and the other two have two bedrooms, making a total of 13 bedrooms (and 14 baths). The houses were designed by Donald Lloyd Smith, together with the owner, Mr Buettner, in the case of four of the homes. Donald Smith, who passed away in 2012, was a well-known Palm Springs artist and interior designer, who also designed homes at Sandpiper and the Eldorado and Marrakesh Country Clubs.
Each house in the compound has its own address, private entrance, driveway, and garage. Within the compound’s grounds, there is a regulation-size lighted tennis court, a pool and spa, a half-size basketball court, a large yard with 24 fruit trees and wide open views of the Santa Rosa Mountains. Each of the five houses is being offered fully furnished and turnkey, including custom artwork by Mr. Smith. The property is listed at $5,500,000.
