LOT 58, Palm Springs’ latest midcentury modern furniture and decor store, has arrived (at 364 South Indian Canyon Drive, in the same plaza as Rio Azul and the Rooster and the Pig). While it’s filled with couches, clocks and knick-knacks like many other stores in town, LOT 58 hopes to set itself apart by offering the city’s first regular live auctions, starting on Oct. 10th.
The staff plans to limit October’s event to in-person bidders, hoping to bring enthusiasts together. Future auctions will allow telephone, absentee and online bids. LOT 58 hopes to host five auctions this season: The first during Modernism Week’s fall preview (Oct. 10th), the second at Thanksgiving to feature holiday decorations and vintage cards, and others around New Year’s Day, Modernism Week and the end of the season in late March. Part of the proceeds from each auction will benefit local charities.
The owners want LOT 58 to be of Palm Springs and for Palm Springs. On days without auctions, the SHOP @ LOT 58 will be a store dedicated to celebrating the Palm Springs lifestyle.
