Skip Descant, The Desert Sun’s tourism reporter, writes in a recent article that the Palm Springs area will swell with visitors this coming weekend for the Labor Day holiday. In addition to vacationers looking for a hot three-day weekend, jazz lovers will be here for the fourth annual Palm Springs Women’s Jazz festival, featuring Tony- and Grammy- award winner Dee Dee Bridgewater, as well as Ann Hampton Calloway and Mimi Jones.
Skip's check of Coachella Valley hotel rates over the Labor Day weekend shows a wide range of options. The Renaissance Indian Wells has a Labor a Day Weekend Package priced from $219 per night, which includes dive-in movies, S’Mores, a family dance party, and access to a Gamer's Ride Mobile Gaming Truck, as well as a daily per-room resort credit that can be used for dining or spa treatments throughout the stay. Full-service resorts like the Westin Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage had rooms for $203 a night, while smaller luxury properties like the Colony Palms in Palm Springs had rooms starting at $394 a night next weekend. The Saguaro Palm Springs posted rooms starting at $132.75 and Hyatt Indian Wells was in the same price range, with rooms being offered at $142 a night.
