In a weekly video message to employees, Southwest Airlines Chairman & CEO Gary Kelley announced plans for year-round service to both Miami International Airport (MIA), and Palm Springs International Airport (PSP), subject to requisite government approvals. He called Palm Springs a great California destination, with Southwest long carrying more passengers to, from, and within the Golden State than any other airline. Good news for our local tourism and hospitality industries…he claims that  Southwest’s combination of hospitality, low fares, and Customer friendly policies will make flying to these airports more affordable and attainable. The carrier's initial flight schedule and service profile for each airport will be announced soon. In May 2020, Southwest introduced its Southwest Promise, highlighting new and round-the-clock efforts to support its Customers and Employees wellbeing and comfort with enhanced cleaning efforts at airports and onboard aircraft, facemask requirements for Customers and Employees, and capping the number of passengers on every flight to allow middle seats to remain open through at least October 31, 2020.
